Relatively unknown to the world, Volvograd is home to a hill where an epic World War 2 battle was won by Russians over the Germans. In honor of the comrades who have died for their Motherland, a memorial was erected on the site. It is called Mamayev Kurgan.

This symbolizes the eternal flame. One of the most dramatic sculptures is that of a soldier ready to fight at all costs.
